Coming together and enjoying ourselves is something we have loved doing. And that started with our super-fun Football Sundays. Is was also a great relaxation, away from work and studies and surrounding ourselves with nature. We definitely made some amazing memories.

One of our most memorable trips was the visit to the AIDS home for children in Cavelossim. We visited the children there and spent some time interacting with them. The kids were so enthusiastic, they even taught us some interesting tips and tricks. Towards the end they performed a ‘Thank You’ song for us. It was definitely a well spent day!

An initiative we started this year that has been enriching was to have confessions for us after eve, 4 months. What’s even special about these confessions is that we have a beautiful reflection preceding them that helps us examine our conscience and also make a good confession.

In thanksgiving for God’s blessings on all our activities, we journeyed to the Divine Springs Retreat Centre at Xellim, Canacona, for an over-night retreat on February 16-17, 2019. There was a special Mass, guided reflections and confessions along with some fun bonding activities and a visit to the beach. Faith strengthened, friendships formed, and memories cherished, we returned renewed in vigour and zeal to serve as youth for Christ.

Carmel Christmas fellowship 2018 was a really fun and memorable for us. For starters, we put up a wonderful mime in collaboration with our carmelite brothers that received great reviews. In addition to that we put up several game stalls, entertaining the kids and adults alike the whole time.

On 14 October, we had an interesting talk on Demonology by Fr. Noel. Ile touched on topics like ghosts, demons, spirits, demonic possessions, and paranormal activities. It was an interesting talk and also a great learning experience. More than that, it helped us grow in faith in the power and goodness of God.

As young adults, the morality of the Church as regards to relationships is a topic that raises a lot of misunderstanding. This rather vast and confusing topic was well explained to us by Fr. Noel, clearing a lot of our doubts and answering several questions including that of the physicality of relationships, sanctity of marriage, and love. It was an eye-opening and heart-touching experience.

It definitely was a fun filled and eventful experience engaging the catechism students from classes 6 to 9. The older kids were given talls on social media and the do’s and don’ts of it. While the younger kids had their share of fun playing several games including charades, crossword puzzles, Pictionary, etc. and went home with smiles on their faces.

15 July 2018, marked the beginning of yet another fun filled year for the Carmel Youth. With the liturgical theme - “Do something beautiful for God” this joyful occasion marked the leadership of the newly appointed animators - Mr. Julius Alphonso (President), Ms. Swizel Pereira (Vice President), Ms. Benecia Colaco (Choir Master) and Ms. Melanie Kevin (Liturgical Animator). It was a day of rejoicing at the entry of new members, as much as we sadly bid farewell to the outgoing ones.

Hey! I’m Karen Coelho and I live in Aquem, super close to the monastery. I love music, and reading books. In my time with the youth, I’ve learnt a lot, made new friends, and received guidance from people who are wiser than me. It’s a very welcoming group, one does not easily feel left out. It is a good place to put your talents to good use, and to do something beautiful for God!

December 2018 was one busy, month with our annual Advent Sale, held to raise money for the underprivileged children and also help the poor. We had an array of beautiful stars up for sale, and the last Advent Sunday, an amazing sale of brownies, and other mouth-watering goodies. The remaining Christmas treats were distributed among the kids at various orphanages, and at the old age homes.

Hi, I’m Julius Alphonso! I’m usually the pianist who accompanies the youth choir. I joined the youth in 2017, soon after 12th std. I frequent mass and the monastery, enjoyed the youth’s choir and wanted to be a part of it. I’ve found this group to be a very safe space. Where people can grown without being ridiculed, where friendships are forged wihout any opportunism, where charitable work is done without expecting to be repaid. Despite the organisational heirarchy that creeps into any such group. The Carmel Lights have stayed true to what they are - a group young adults, friends, growing together in faith with Christ at the center.

In the year of 2014, I started my beautiful journey with the youth group living according to the motto “Do Something Beautiful for God.” I always wanted to be a part of the Carmel Youth Group since I was a young Catechism student at the Carmelite Monastery. The thing I love the most about being a Light is that we can touch the lives of many youngsters from the youth group as well as from outside the youth group and help them see what God has planned for them. It is a place where we can nurture our talents and use them for the glory of God. I can say that I am proud to be a Light.

Hello, I’m Werner Gomindes, a 20 year old from Margao. I’m studying Computer Engineering at GEC and have strong inclination towards music, singing and painting. During this lockdown, I’ve found myself reading a lot. I’m a regular at the Carmelite Monastary and enjoy Fr. Michael’s sermons. It was because of him, and friend Karen (who described the youth as vivacious) that I joined the Youth. I’ve always wanted to contribute something meaningful to God, and the Youth has given me that opportunity. The priests are very approachable and encouraging, so this place feel like home. I love that we’re so engaged in Church activites - be it the choir, spending time with orphans, or making cribs during Christmas. There’s always immense joy in my heart whenever I take part in these activities. I want more youth to come closer to God, and meet more people and help each other grow together.

Hi, I’m Swizel Pereira and I’m from Aquem. I usually spend my time reading, singing and I absolutely love to cook! I’m the the Carmel Youth because it’s a unqiue, special and very vibrant group. I love this group, the members are friendly, we share a loving bond and we have fun activites together. Being here has helped my grow spiritually, and I want to help others grow spiritually and help them live fruitful lives. I want to DO SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL FOR GOD!

Hi, I’m Ramola D’silva! I’m from Benaulim, Goa. I’m 21 and have a degree in English and psychology. I like animals, art, movies and conspiracy theories. I’m an ambivert and love making friends. Which is one of the reasons I’m in the Carmel Youth. Other reasons are just to explore my spiritual side and do what I can to better myself as a person. I love the unity and the passion to do something good that I see in this group. These days, I’m homebound and also asthmatic, so I can’t contribute as much as I’d like to. But I’m a Light, and I help out in all the little ways I can.

My name is Neysa Mae D’mello. I’m from Raia and my hobbies are singing, dancing and acting. When I was samll, I used to come to the Carmelite Monastery to hear mass and attend catechism. I always saw the Carmel Youth do so much to get build people’s faith in God. They helped out in various church activities. I had already made up my mind then, that this is what I wanted to do. Among the many things I love about the Youth, the one that stands out most is the members’ willinginess to help each other out. Wether it’s a common activity or a personal issue, I can always find a support system here. As a youth member, from my own experience I want people to learn and understand the different ways in which God helps and guide us.

Hi I’m Leif! I live in Navelim, and I love to travel and all sorts of sports. I joined the Carmel Youth because of the amazing people in the group. Everyone here has an open mindset, and the priest are on a whole new level. I don’t know how the manage to stay so jolly with all the responsibility they have on their shoulders. The Youth is a very active place. Despite us being in lockdown, I still see a health participation among everyone! I believe in actions over words, and being a Light helps me set peoples’ hearts ablaze.

My name’s Leander Fernandes. I’m from Sao Jose De Areal. I’m a professional football player. I joined the youth so that I could be closer to God and get involved in activites that help others. I stayed in the youth, because I there’s a very friendly atmostphere in the group. It feels like home, and no one is taken for granted.

I’m Keenan Cardozo, I’m from Varca and am currently pursuing my 3rd year in Mechanical Engineering at Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda. I’m a “keen” enthusiast for sports like Taekwondo, Football and Table Tennis among others. I love to travel and visit new places with family and friends. After listening to many interesting stories about the Carmel Youth from my friends (Benecia and Karen) I wwas motivated to join. People in the Carmel youth are friendly, supportive, dedicated and caring. The activities organised and the work done here is really interesting - it keeps me engaged and I never get bored. As a member I would always love to help the community in whatever way I can and encourage more youth to join the Lights and be closer to God.

Hey, my name is Jesween Shinde and I hail all the way from Navelim. My hobbies range from travelling, music, reading sleeping, tech-tinkering,and ethical hacking. I am a student pursuing my engieering degree in Computers and I work professionally as a DJ and music producer. I am part of the Carmel Youth because it has taught me a lot in these years and I’ve learnt to discipline a few of my habits. The fact that I like (of the youth) is the bonding with prayer as it’s the only place we can slow down in our fast paced lives. I’m not much of a social person, and don’t make new friends very easily. But one day, my friend Swizel told me about this amazing group, “The Carmel Youth” and I just had to join. I like the mutual respect that’s there here. It’s like a second family to me. I really look up to the committed members we have. I’ve learnt and am still learning a lot from them. The good thing abou the Youth is that we always support one another, just like a family does. We work hard, but we also enjoy each other’s company, so time really flies. Hii!! My name is Alia Colaco, I’m 17 and I live in Aquem. I enjoy singing, cooking, reading sometimes and just binge watching TV shows. The season I’ve joined the Carmel Youth is because as teenagers we often forget to include God in our lives. Therefore I have joined the youth to learn how to be in touch with God and serve Him and also go about with my daily life. What I love about the Youth is the bond everyone shares with each other, all the happy vibes and all the amazing people I get to call my friends.

I moved to Margao around 6 years ago, and have enjoyed being a part of the vibrant Carmelite community. I am invested in baking, music and the welfare of animals, especially since my two dogs are rescued strays. I joined the Carmel Youth in order to be a part of the amazing work that it does, to ground myself in the Catholic faith, and to be a part of a group that works together for the betterment of society. As a member of the Youth, I hope to leverage my skills and talents to contribute to society, especially the elderly and the underprivileged, while learning from like-minded Youth members, under the mentorship of our Carmelite Priests.

Hi there! I’m Loretta Rodrigues, a 20 something bibliophile, lover of literature, comics, food, art, movies/TV series, dogs and day dreaming. I recently completed my Post Graduation in English Literature from Parvatiai Chowgule Colege ofArt and Science and am working to get into the lecturing field one day. The thought of being able to share my knowledge with young adults and learn at the same is something I am excited about. I also enhoy content writing and academic writing… I’m a bit of a nerd there. I’ve been in the Carmel Youth for over two years now, and it’s been two amazing years filled with love, laughter, learning and adventure with some of the best people I know. Visiting orphanages and making kids laugh, organising bake sales and raised funds for the poor, special confessions and reflections specialy for the youth, spiritual retreats with a hint of fun, and oh yes - football Sundays! There are just a few of the many things we do. Doing all these things sure is fun, but the best part is sharing these memories with these amazing people from the youth. That’s why I love it so much! <3
